“If there is no photographs, then there is no history. I’m going to get in there. I’m going to make these pictures. We need a record.” – Joel Meyerowitz

That’s some impressive street photography, Phil, and a refreshing change from the usual tropes and cliches I see from the 1000’s of other snappers these days. I love your use of tone and contrast.

I’m going to have to sell a kidney, I REALLY want a Q2 Monochrome too. I know ‘it’s not the camera’, you have a unique eye and a raft of skills and talent, but that mono sensor really shines. I know you must be busy, Phil, but if you have any time in the next few weeks I’d love to meet up for a chat (I stay in South Shields)
I’m glad to see you’ve come out the other side and are now back on top. Your work is incredible and I know it’s an inspiration to a lot of photographers of all ages. Whenever I’m feeling a bit lost, creatively, I come to your site and look. The zines you’ve been doing are such a great way of getting your work out into the world, unlike the digital copy, they’ll outlast all of us. I love your colour work, but it’s this black and white stuff that you really seem to excel at, bringing out a feeling I can’t explain….discomfort but in a good way, like a half remembered dream. Will you be doing another Japan zine? I’d love to add another to my collection.
All the best, Phil, hopefully catch up next time you’re back on The Rock?
Dan
